Asama sake brewery Gunma can be found in Naganohara at the feet of Mount Asama which is the border between Nagano and Gunma. Typical is the central part nature is given in sake brewing in this brewery. The cold temperatures, lots of snow and since 2011 they own the rice fields with a small river next to the brewery.
The majestic Mt. Asama straddles Gunma and Nagano prefectures. Asama Sake Brewery is located in Naganohara, a plateau that spreads out at the foothills to the north. There are also famous tourist spots nearby, such as the famous hot springs, Kusatsu Onsen and Yamba Dam. The Asama Sake Brewery Tourism Center, located next to the sake brewery, serves as its gateway, welcoming not only locals but also many tourists from all over the country.
In winter in Naganohara, a cold, dry, strong wind called `Joshu no Karakkaze' blows. The representative brand, Higen, is said to have a unique astringency and smooth taste due to this harshly cold climate. Cold climate means also brewing at colder temperatures which gives more elegant fruity and floral tones to sake. The sake brewery is made with great care based on the concept of `a sake brewery that brings the scenery of the foothills of Mt. Asama to everyone.'
