Asama sake brewery Gunma can be found in Naganohara at the feet of Mount Asama which is the border between Nagano and Gunma. Typical is the central part nature is given in sake brewing in this brewery. The cold temperatures, lots of snow and since 2011 they own the rice fields with a small river next to the brewery.

The representative brand, Higen, is said to have a unique astringency and smooth taste due to this harshly cold climate. Cold climate means also brewing at colder temperatures which gives more elegant fruity and floral tones to sake.
